Benchmark opens annual public consultation for comment on its market-leading price assessment methodologies

Following the continued evolution of the lithium ion battery supply chain, and as part of its rolling methodology review process, Benchmark Mineral Intelligence announces the opening of the 2025 annual public consultation period, for comment on Benchmark’s market-leading price assessment methodologies for lithium, nickel, cobalt, natural graphite, synthetic graphite, anode, cathode, black mass and rare earths.

This annual consultation period allows stakeholders in the lithium ion battery supply chain and all members of the public to directly comment and give feedback on Benchmark’s mineral-specific price methodologies, the basis for its market-leading Price Assessments.

You can find the latest updated versions of Benchmark’s methodologieshere.

The consultation period will begin immediately from publication of this article, extending for no less than 28 days from commencement.

Proposed material changes

Benchmark proposes to update all Price Assessment Methodologies to allow the low price and high price of the range to be independently rolled over in periods of low liquidity or insufficient data points.

Benchmark proposes to update the wording in the Lithium Price Assessment Methodology to clarify that one member of the Senior Price Team not involved with price collection for the grades is required to attend each price setting meeting.

Housekeeping changes

Following the consultation period, Benchmark will make some non-material changes to the Price Assessment Methodologies to ensure phrasing and nomenclature is consistent across documents for different markets.

Benchmark will review all comments and seek to make public all non-confidential responses within 10 working days of the closure of the open season.
